Alumni Impact

The skills and assets acquired at Kiski prepare students to be leaders.

Our alumni are diverse in many ways. Beyond their demographic backgrounds, their college choices, majors, and chosen career fields cover both a large geographic area and an array of disciplines. Our global alumni network is a resource for both alumni and current students to utilize to gain access to the extensive body of knowledge and experience that our collective alumni possess.

Alumni Network

Upon graduation, Kiski students join an extensive international network of alumni that have a range of different experiences, education, and industry connections. Alumni can call on each other if they need advice about jobs, when moving to a new city, or simply to reconnect with old classmates. At Kiski, we do our best to facilitate these lifelong connections by hosting events like Reunion and Homecoming, but also through a digital platform, Wavelength.

Alumni can login into Wavelength (by clicking the button below) to do searches for alumni in their area, look up friends, or find a new job or connection to an industry.
“Going to Kiski was one of the best things to ever happen to me. If I hadn’t gone there, I doubt my life and career would’ve unfolded the way it did” - Carroll "Beano" Cook '49

Success in Life

The Kiski Mission is to prepare young men and women to succeed in college and life. These Kiski graduates represent a sampling of successes within the Kiski Alumni Network across many different eras and disciplines. We are proud of our many accomplished alumni including and beyond this group.

  • 2019: Chad McCutcheon '00

Chad McCutcheon’s strong personal convictions and commitment to the pursuit of excellence led him to accomplish great things during his lifetime.  As a loyal alumnus of Kiski, he showed – through word and deed – how much he cherished this School.

Chad arrived at Kiski as a freshman in 1996 and, soon after, his intellectual curiosity took hold and grew.  He is remembered fondly and with respect by his teachers and classmates as a tenacious learner and a faithful friend.  Chad was especially proud to be a member of the Varsity Swimming Team.  He celebrated with his teammates when his team was inducted into the Kiski Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016.

After graduating from Kiski in 2000, Chad remained true to the ideals and principles he learned here.  He graduated from Penn State University in 2004 and later earned a master’s degree in communications from American University.  With his schooling complete, he joined his family’s business, McCutcheon Enterprises, where he served as their communications professional.

Chad was a very generous person and applied that talent humbly within his community.  In addition to being a member of Kiski’s Board of Visitors, he served on numerous other boards, including the Armstrong Center for Community Learning, the local chapter of the United Way, the Moraine Trails Council, and Board Chairman for Leadership Alle-Kiski Valley.  Chad was also a Church Elder, an Eagle Scout, and a Master Mason of the Kiskiminetas Lodge.

Adroit in the political realm, Chad was always ready for a friendly debate or to lend his assistance with a campaign.  He also had a great love of dirt car racing, but nothing held a more prominent place his heart than family.  Chad had a lot to be proud of, but he beamed brightest in the role of uncle.

For all he accomplished, for his uncompromising moral standards, and for his service to and unwavering love for Kiski, we are proud to honor Chad Alan McCutcheon today with this Distinguished Alumnus Award.

  • 2018: Thomas Sturges '63

Tom Sturges, your unrelenting drive, unique vision, and inspirational leadership have led you to accomplish great things in the world of business and community leadership.  Through word and deed, you have shown how much you value Kiski and its educational mission.  This citation makes official our deep admiration for the example you have set as a leader and a devoted Kiski alumnus.

After Kiski, you attended and graduated from Bucknell University and followed your passion for engineering to the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company in Newport News, Virginia where you took an active part in the structural and nuclear design departments for this shipbuilding company.

Upon the conclusion of your work in Virginia, you moved back to Pennsylvania to take over as the Chief Engineer for Pennsylvania Drilling Company in Imperial, Pennsylvania.  Over the years, your career flourished.  Your second position at Pennsylvania Drilling was a Vice President, and a few years later, you were elected to be the President and Chairman of the Board, a position you continue to hold to this day.

Along the way, you have found the time to be involved as a trustee for the Pittsburgh Geological Society and the Early Learning Institute of Pittsburgh.  You have also been a director of Conservation Consultants, Inc., and the National Drilling Association Insurance Company as well as a member of the West Virginia Division of the Environmental Protection Board focused on the monitoring of Well design and construction.

Throughout your life you have been a thinker, a leader, and a generous philanthropist.  You and your wife, Barbara, have been gracious and longtime benefactors of both Bucknell and Kiski.  You have been a dedicated father to your daughter Melissa, and to your son Caleb, who is also a Kiski alumnus, Class of 1993.

Tom Sturges, for your many achievements in life and for the thoughtful and loyal generosity you continue to dedicate to help to advance Kiski’s greater good, we are very proud to honor you today with our Distinguished Alumnus Award.
  • 2017: Walter McPhail '51

Walter McPhail, your unrelenting drive, unique vision, and inspiring leadership have led you to accomplish great things in the world of business and entrepreneurship.  Through word and deed, you have shown how much you value Kiski and its educational mission.  This citation makes official our deep admiration for the example you have set as a leader and a devoted Kiski alumnus.

After Kiski, you graduated from Denison University and followed your passion for business as you embarked on a career as the founder of Lectron Products, a manufacturer of electro-mechanical products for the automotive industry.  When you sold Lectron, you pushed forward once again by starting the McPhail Corporation.

Along the way, you founded several other companies.  Most recently, because you are not one to embrace the idea of retirement, you put your creative energy to new use by starting Rotortech Services in West Palm Beach, Florida.  As company president, you not only oversee helicopter repair operations, but you also continue to perform as a highly-skilled pilot.

Throughout your life you have been a thinker, a leader, and a philanthropist.  You have been a longtime benefactor of both Kiski and Denison. In addition, with your wife, Mary Anne, you have loyally supported Michigan State University and major equestrian events in Florida.

In 1995, with your guidance and financial backing, Kiski installed a fiber-optic infrastructure to address campus-wide technology needs, which allowed us to be one of the first schools in the nation to launch a student laptop program.  We will be forever grateful for the transformational impact your vision and sponsorship have had on our School.

Walter McPhail, for your many achievements in life and for the generosity you continue to supply to help advance Kiski’s purpose, we are very proud to honor you today with this Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Roger Kishman, your unrelenting drive and propensity for leadership have led you to prodigious accomplishments in the world of business and management. You have applied those same talents towards your exemplary and transformational work as a Kiski ambassador.  This citation makes official our deep admiration for the example you have set as a Kiski alumnus.

After your graduation from Oberlin School of Commerce, you embarked on a successful accounting and financial operations career. You were drawn to leadership roles and quickly ascended to become a Chapter President, Regional Chapter Liaison Representative, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Hospital Financial Management Association. As a Rotarian, you served as a Treasurer and President, and were recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow.

You have volunteered those same talents to Kiski in ways that have strengthened and sustained our important Class Captain Program, our institutional advancement operation, and our School. As a Class Captain, you have established and cultivated connections between Kiski and The Class of 1962 – a class that can be counted among the most engaged with Kiski by multiple measures. As our first “General” of the Kiski Class Captains, you have been a steadfast motivator and mentor for scores of Class Captains from all eras.

  • 2013: Thomas Kozub '65

An essential factor in maintaining Kiski’s distinct philosophy has been the service of graduates who have made teaching their vocation, who have known and loved their alma mater, and who, over time, have helped to shape the school through their leadership.

Thomas Kozub, you embody all of these honorable characteristics.
As a Kiski student, you were recognized for your strong work ethic, your tireless resolve, and your exceptional talents as an athlete.  You graduated from Kiski in 1965 and returned a few years later as a member of the faculty.  You spent the next three decades of your life serving Kiski as a teacher, coach, dorm master, and administrator.

As Kiski’s Athletic Director, you held our players to the highest standards and helped them to appreciate the value of good sportsmanship and fair play.  As the Dean of Students, you were known for your uncompromising principles, always remaining true to the ideals that matter most: honor, courage and integrity.
In all of the roles you filled at Kiski, you executed your duties faithfully and well, always winning the admiration and affection of your colleagues and your students.  With your wife Barbara by your side, you touched the lives of well over a thousand Kiski Boys, all of them better people for the guidance and care you supplied at every turn.

In recognition of your exceptional level of service to Kiski and your lifelong accomplishments in the field of education, we are proud to honor you today with this Distinguished Alumnus Award.

After graduating from the United States Naval Academy you served honorably as a U.S. Naval Officer specializing in engineering and tactical operations.  In addition, you were a Surface Warfare Officer and a department head.  You retired as a Commander, USNR, while serving with the Joint Forces Command and NATO Joint Striking Fleet Atlantic.  Your ability to strategically think and lead others continued to be worthy assets as you founded and now continue to grow your consulting company Syndetics, Inc. After graduating from The University of Pennsylvania, you served as a captain in the United States Air Force.  Your ability to lead continued to be a notable asset as you began your career with the Gleason Corporation, taking the helm as CEO and Chairman in 1994, a position you continue to hold today.  Under your guidance the company has flourished and is recognized as one of the largest and most successful businesses of its kind in the United States.

Your skills as an organizer and motivator have garnered success outside of the business world as well.  Fulfilling the caption beneath your Kiski yearbook photo that stated you would shape the political world of our nation, you have held many important political and governmental posts at the county, state, and national levels, including your tenure as Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and as Chairman of the Republican Party of Pennsylvania, a position you have held since 2006 due to your remarkable work ethic and clear vision.

You have committed yourself to many charitable causes in your community, sharing your time and expertise with organizations devoted to education, health care, and religion.  Most notably, as a devoted member of Kiski School’s Board of Trustees, you have supported your School through your wise counsel, your generous sponsorship, and your solid leadership.

Dean Mosites, your steadfast devotion to our School has not gone unnoticed. As a loyal alumnus of Kiski, you demonstrate through your words and deeds how much our School means to you. Today, it is our turn to show you how much your efforts are appreciated.

You have stayed a loyal friend of our School since you graduated in 1972. While a student here you were respected for your determination to succeed and also for your toughness on the wrestling mat.

These qualities served you well as you went on to graduate from The University of Pittsburgh and later to become the President of the Building Division of Mosites Construction Company.

As a valued member of Kiski's Board of Trustees, you have worked tirelessly on various projects and helped maintain the forward momentum that Kiski now enjoys. You continue to give back, many times over, all that you gained while you were a student here. Without your support and conviction, the Heath Hall project would not have come to pass. Your yeomanlike work on behalf of the Swank Student Center gave the project "legs" and allowed it to leap from the architect's drawing board to reality for Kiski.

Your matter-of-fact, pleasant and unpretentious manner along with your "let's get it done" attitude leads others to respect and want to follow you.

It is with great pride and affection that we honor you today for your achievements, for your service to and abiding love for your school. It is our privilege to present you with Kiski's Distinguished Alumnus Award.

  • 1980: W. Logan Dickerson '45

Logan Dickerson, your service to Kiski has been equaled by few of your fellow alumni and surpassed, perhaps, by none.

Your undergraduate career was distinguished not only by athletic success but also by intellectual powers so strong that you were able to graduate earlier than your class in order to begin your studies at the Carnegie Institute of Technology.

Your service to Kiski, first as a loyal Alumnus, then as an Alumni Trustee and then as a Permanent Trustee, has covered several decades, and each year has seen your involvement and contributions grow.

Institutions like Kiski benefit from many kinds of support, financial and moral and you have supported your school in each of those areas.

But institutions survive and flourish only when there are men who are willing to give of their time and themselves in those areas of support which receive few plaudits and bring no tangible reward.

In this area, Logan Dickerson, you have served Kiski as few others have. Your quiet dedication is measured in the untold hours you have given, unrewarded and unthanked. Hours of inestimable value, known to but a very few.

For all of your accomplishments, but most of all for your unswerving loyalty and wisdom, your grateful school honors you.

  • 1979: Reno DiOrio '59

Reno DiOrio, your entire career has been one which has served your school. From your days as a student when as the best athlete of the decade nd the most respected leader of your time you became a legend in the minds of Kiski boys, to your days as a faculty member, your contributions to Kiski have been unsurpassed.

As a teacher and dormitory master you earned the respect of your pupils.

As perhaps the most successful athletic coach of your time you have built teams which have reflected your own standards of sportsmanship and respect for excellence.

As an administrator you have unselfishly given of your leadership and intelligence to your school for fourteen years.

For all these contributions your place at Kiski is secure forever.

But valuable as theses are, they pale in comparison to the simple example you have set for all of us, teachers and students, as a man of honesty and integrity.

For this most of all your grateful school honors you.

  • 1979: Russell Swank Jr. '42

Russell Swank, all of your associations with Kiski have typified your rare qualities of loyalty, devotion and good humor.

From your undergraduate days as an extremely popular student leader and outstanding athlete to the present these qualities have worked to the benefit of your school.

Your services as a class agent have been such as to maintain the loyalty or many alumni of your generation.

Your own loyalty to Kiski and to Kiski boys has been little publicized but greatly appreciated especially by those young Kiski students and Kiski graduates who were helped by a kind word or a summer job or a call to a college admissions office to help them.

Your service as a trustee of Kiski since 1969 has been unsurpassed.

At no time have you been too busy to give your time, knowledge and energy to help and to advise.

It can honestly be said that had it not been for you and your help and guidance much of the new Kiski would not have been built.

For your loyalty and dedication, but most of all for your unfailing kind good humor which has been a source of strength to us all, your grateful school honors you.
