Application Process: Student Responsibilty
Freshmen and Sophomore Years

During the freshmen and sophomore years it is important for the student to begin taking strong academic foundation courses. Draft a four-year academic plan by reviewing the School's curriculum and develop a list of courses you would like to take during your Kiski School experience as preparation for college. Plan to enroll in six classes per year. Be sure to work to your academic potential. All grades will affect your college transcript from this point. Commit to volunteer activities and get involved in extracurricular activities. Join a few clubs in addition to your athletic commitments.

Junior Year

Starting in the junior year, the College Counselors begin to meet with each student both individually and in group settings. It is during this time that the student begins to define those college characteristics that are important to him in selecting colleges. With this information, the student and counselor begin to develop a list of colleges to explore. After the list is developed, the student may explore options by using the resources that are available in the College Counseling Office, by visiting colleges, attending presentations by college admission representatives, and by talking with Kiski faculty and alumni, and others who may help in the decision-making process.

Senior Year

The senior year is filled with completing college applications, continuing research, visiting colleges, interviewing, testing, and meeting with college admission respresentatives. The College Counselors continue to meet with each student and his family to guide them through the process. By May 1, which is officially known in the college admission profession as "Candidates' Reply Date," all decisions should be made and finalized with a deposit to the chosen college and letters to the colleges not selected.
