Given each October to sophomores and juniors, the PSAT/NMSQT provides practice for the SAT Reasoning Test. During the junior year, it is used in the selection of the top scholars in the country for the awarding of merit scholarships. The PSAT/NMSQT measures critical reading skills, math problem-solving skills and writing skills. PSAT scores are not usually used by colleges as admission criteria.
