Student Center Exceeds Expectations

4/7/2009
In the weeks following the grand opening, the Swank Student Center has quickly become a familiar and highly frequented part of the Kiski community.  The Kiski boys have become enamored with the Student Center and all that it offers them.  It has given them a place to relax during study hall and the weekends.  The televisions within the student center offer a way of keeping in touch with the outside world; the favorite channel by far is ESPN’s SportsCenter.  The ping-pong table has also become an incredibly popular field of combat and is in constant use every night, after dinner and during study hall, up until it closes at 10.  The pool table and air hockey table also see their fair share of use, hosting multiple games every night.

The most popular part of the new student center has been the snack bar.  Offering a variety of foods ranging from energy drinks and coffee to pretzels and french fries, the snack bar receives a lot of traffic during the class day and at night, catering to the seemingly insatiable hunger of the boys.  In the mornings the snack bar also offers breakfast-oriented snacks for those students who are either too tired to walk down to the dining hall for the breakfast served there or the students who are still looking for a little sustenance in the morning to keep them going.

Moving upstairs, the new college office is a wonderful improvement over its old location in Old Main. Featuring windows and a spacious format, it emanates an invitation to all who require the counsel of its inhabitants.  The radio station is also an improvement after its relocation from an aging Kalnow, using Cubase and a new mixing board to entertain Kiski with student-produced broadcasts.

Overall, the Swank Student Center has lived up to all of its expectations, providing the students with a comfortable environment to have some fun, away from the stresses of everyday life.  The Student Center has become and will continue to be an integral part of the Kiski community.
