Library Mission Statement

The John A. Pidgeon Library is the “learning commons” of the Kiski School, serving the school’s mission in preparing young men to succeed in college and in life. The library program seeks to ensure that all members of the Kiski community are resourceful, effective, and ethical in using ideas and information to pursue and generate knowledge. This mission is accomplished by
  • Providing intellectual and physical access to quality materials in a variety of media formats that meet students’ information needs
  • Providing sanctuary for quiet study and reflection along with the physical space for group work
  • Promoting collaboration with faculty and designing interdisciplinary teaching opportunities to integrate resources, information and technology across the curriculum
  • Fostering literacy and a life-long love of reading and learning through stimulating instruction and activities
  • Educating students, faculty and staff on the appropriate use, and intellectual property of information
  • Striving to maintain current and comprehensive knowledge of the school’s curriculum, and of the instructional best practices, tools and resources.

  • Bradley Reading Room

The Library offers an atmosphere perfect for reading, research and reflection, starting with the Bradley Reading Room. The octagonal room overlooking the campus pond is furnished with comfortable leather chairs, wall-to-wall window seating, a cozy fireplace and over 80 subscriptions to print magazines, journals and newspapers.
  • Special Collections Room

Established in 2009, the Special Collections Room is a comfortable space for quiet study or collaborative work.  It houses the extensive Myers Hemingway Studies Exhibit and Collection, The Helen Mason Moore Poetry collection, and the James Moore Collection for Studies in American Religion.
  • Emerson Room

When Mr. Pidgeon celebrated his 45th year at Kiski, The Board of Trustees commemorated the event with a special collection of original Ralph Waldo Emerson documents and artifacts to honor the headmaster’s love of American literature and the ideals embodied by Emerson. These materials are on display in the Emerson Room, a small conference room on the second floor of the library.
  • Kiski School Archives

In 2014, the Pidgeon Library embarked on a long-term project to formally preserve, organize, catalog and provide digital access to Kiski School archives so that our rich heritage as one of the country's oldest boys boarding schools might be preserved and enjoyed for generations to come. The Kiski Archives collection contains documents, photos and memorabilia dating back to the school's founding in 1888. School newspapers, Alumni Bulletins, K-Books and yearbooks are now being cataloged in a searchable database here. Inquiries about the Archives can be made by contacting the Director of Library Services at
