Centennial Cup

The Centennial Cup is a celebration of the athletic rivalry between The Kiski School and Mercersburg Academy that dates back to 1913. The “Cup” commemorates the 100th year of storied competition between these two premier Pennsylvania boarding schools and honors the athletes and coaches who have made this one of the most compelling rivalries in private school athletics.

In 1913, Mercersburg and Kiski took to the diamond for a varsity baseball game. This game, a 4-3 Mercersburg victory, was the beginning of a relationship that has lasted a century between two schools that have engaged in meaningful athletic competitions while always demonstrating sportsmanship. Kiski won the first varsity football game played between the two schools in 1917 by the score of 14-0, and since that game, the two schools have competed against one another in soccer, wrestling, track, basketball, lacrosse, golf, cross country and swimming.

The Centennial Cup is a year-long athletic competition between The Kiski School and Mercersburg Academy. Each school’s varsity athletic teams will compete against one another, with the winning team earning two points for their school. At the end of the year, the points will be calculated and the cup will be awarded to the winning school to proudly display on their campus for the following year. The winning school’s name and the year will be inscribed at the base of the trophy.
