Most colleges require applicants to submit some combination of the SAT, the ACT, and SAT Subject Tests. We recommend that students take the ACT or the SAT at least once by June of the 11th grade. On many testing dates, Kiski will be a test center for both the ACT and the SAT, but there are some dates when students will have to test off campus at another center such as Derry High School. Kiski will provide students with transportation to the recommended alternate testing sites when Kiski is not a test center.
Students must register for the SAT, ACT, and Subject Tests on their own. Registration requires a credit card accepted by U.S. banks. We recommend that students sign up by the earliest posted deadline because test centers can fill up. Students must also submit official score reports to colleges and the NCAA because the Kiski College Counseling Office does not send testing as part of its college application materials.
Before preparing for the test, students should first try to decide whether they will concentrate on the ACT or the SAT. They can get an idea of their performance on the SAT by taking the PSAT. In order to get a similar gauge of the ACT, students can take a practice test in the Preparing for the ACT guide, available in the College Counseling Office. Additionally, Kiski hosts an on-campus test preparation course that is available to Kiski juniors during their spring semester. Contact a counselor for more detailed information.
