The Advantages of Playing Sports at Kiski

Boys who participate in high school sports will experience the benefits far into the future. Playing sports like soccer, football, lacrosse or baseball helps boys develop social skills, active lifestyles, and engage more with their education. You and your son can find these benefits at any school with an athletic program, but what sets Kiski athletes above the rest? As a private institution, we have the resources to train your son to go beyond high school sports and excel at the college level.

State-of-the-Art Facilities
At Kiski, we invested in a new athletic facility for our students because we know all of them will use and benefit from it. Unlike in public schools where only a fraction of the students participate in sports, all Kiski boys are required to play at least one sport per season in freshman and sophomore years.  They grow to love one or two of the sports and continue through graduation.  Our new Ross Athletic Center features state-of-the-art equipment, special floors designed to absorb impact, and viewing rooms for studying game footage. Kiski’s coaches are also dedicated teachers who help our students develop the skills they need to succeed on and off the field.

Small Student Population
Participating in athletics at private schools also means more playing time for the students because of small class sizes. Kiski has many junior varsity sports and freshmen are given the chance to practice, play, and develop their skills under the direction of dedicated coaches. The weight room provides state-of-the art weight lifting stations that are flanked by a track system used to attach resistance cords. The cords hook to weights or the athlete for more controlled and safer weight lifting.

Best Prep for College Athletics
Many student athletes from private school institutions are scouted and recruited for college athletics. Our participation rates and superior equipment give students the opportunities they need to become the best in whatever sport they choose. With 12 varsity teams and 12 junior varsity teams, we have something for everyone. In 2014, 33% of Kiski’s graduates went on to play sports at the college level, and six of those graduates received Division 1 athletic scholarships.
