How to Prepare for Your Kiski Adventure pt.1

Part 1: The Kiski Uniform

School is finally out for summer, which means you can spend start spending your summer days lounging in the sun, vacationing with your family, and hanging out with your friends. While you’re out enjoying some well-deserved relaxation, don’t let the time pass you by. It’ll be back-to-school season before you know it, so make sure you have everything you need to start your Kiski adventure off right.

At Kiski, we have high expectations for our students and that extends to appearance and attire. Your appearance tells people more about you than you think, so if you appear well-groomed, well-mannered, and well-dressed you’ll make a great first impression! We aim to instill good grooming habits early on so here’s what you need to know:

Class Attire
You’ll wear your class attire to all of your classes during the week and for all formal meals and school assemblies. Please note that cargo-style pants or shorts are not appropriate class attire, and you should also bring a white dress shirt for more formal occasions. We also suggest bringing a pair of boots as those are allowed during certain weather conditions.. Here are the essentials:
  • Sport or suit coat
  • Clean dress shirt and tie
  • Belted trousers
  • Leather dress shoes
  • Dark dress socks

Blues and Grays
Sometimes you’ll be required to wear Blues and Grays. These occasions might include before a big sport event or for a guest speaker. This uniform consists of gray dress pants, a white shirt, belt, dress shoes, a School tie, and a blue blazer.

Casual Attire
For informal off-campus activities and trips to Saltsburg, students may wear a dress or polo shirt with a collar that is then tucked into belted khakis or dress trousers. You can wear athletic shoes for these informal outings.

Informal Attire
When you’re just hanging out around campus on the weekends or in the evenings after mandatory study hall, you may wear shorts, t-shirts, and jeans. Even with informal attire, your clothes should be clean and neat. T-shirts with inappropriate slogans or references to drugs or alcohol are not permitted.

While it may seem unnatural to wear the Kiski uniform at first, you’ll adjust quickly and become more comfortable. Remember you’re not alone! Every Kiski student will be wearing the same thing so there’s no reason to feel out of place! Next week we will touch on all of the optional items we allow at Kiski to make your transition to dorm life and our expansive campus more comfortable.
