Five Reasons to Consider Boarding School

Unlike the schools you see in movies or read about in books, boarding schools today have modern approaches to teaching and housing students. We don’t adhere to the misconception that boarding schools are cold, hard places where “bad kids” are sent to learn discipline. Instead boarding schools, like The Kiski School, are full of fun, stimulating learning experiences that you can’t get anywhere else. Here are a few reasons you and your family should consider boarding school:
  1. Life-long Friends and Brotherhood

At boarding schools, you live with your classmates in college-style dorms. Not only does this prepare you for higher education, but you also become fast friends with your classmates. As one of Kiski’s recent graduates put it, you’ll be living with 35 of your closest friends. At boarding schools, you and your classmates become family.
  1. Stimulating Environment

Boarding schools foster stimulating educational environments where students want to learn. Students at Kiski want to be challenged and exceed their potential academically. We provide them with the encouragement and resources they need to reach their goals. Unlike at public schools where a culture of ambivalence towards education dominates, boarding schools allow our students to learn without these misguided external social pressures.
  1. Passionate Teachers

It’s easy to teach students when you have passionate teachers, and boarding schools tend to hire the best. We hire teachers with advanced degrees in their fields of study. They enjoy sharing their areas of expertise with young minds. When students see their mentors are passionate about something, it’s easy for them to learn and share that mindset.
  1. Individual Attention

We have smaller class sizes than typical public schools, which means our students receive more individual attention. At Kiski, because we’re an all-boys boarding school, we cater specifically to boys educational needs. We tailor our curriculum to our students to ensure their success.
  1. Athletic Opportunities

With small class sizes comes more opportunities to join the athletic teams and clubs of your choice. At Kiski, our students are required to participate in at least one sport. We provide our athletes with the state-of-the-art facilities and equipment they need to excel. In 2014, 33% of Kiski’s graduates went on to play sports at the college level, and six of those graduates received Division 1 athletic scholarships.
