Meet Kiski: Mark Novom, Associate Headmaster

High school is a pivotal time in a young man’s life. He’s deciding what he wants to study in college and where he wants to go to school. In these formative years, there’s no one more influential than the teachers, faculty, and coaches at the school he attends. At Kiski, we always find the most qualified professionals to help our students learn and grow. Mark Novom, our newly appointed Associate Headmaster, is one such exceptional individual.

Mark, after working as the Dean of Students at Kiski for two years, will start his third year at the school in the fall in a new position, Associate Headmaster. Before joining our Kiski family, Mark studied literature at University of California, San Diego and earned his Master’s degree in playwriting from Yale University. He then accepted a position at his high school alma mater, Brentwood School, a day school in Los Angeles. After working in LA for a few years, Mark wanted to find a place that was better suited for him and his family. He didn’t want to raise his kids in LA so he accepted a position at Kiski where our large, rural campus is a comfortable distance from the bustling city of Pittsburgh.

In his time at Kiski, Mark has grown to love the campus, students, and his fellow teachers and administrators. Having faculty members who love working with students and are also highly motivated makes working at Kiski a memorable experience.

“It has been wonderful,” Mark said.

Mark and his family live on campus because they love the family-feel of Kiski, where everyone is part of one big family. Some of Mark’s favorite Kiski memories from Orientation Week and Leadership Weekends involve helping the students grow as individuals as they work together. He remembers watching the students collaborate on different projects like turning a cigar box into a guitar or doing relay races during a Leadership Weekend.

“Seeing the boys work together to accomplish that one goal is one of my favorite things to see,” Mark said.

Having a strong relationship with teachers and administrators at school helps students excel academically. At Kiski, our teachers and faculty, like Mark Novom, are role models for the students and work hard to perpetuate a culture of learning and achievement.
