Meet Our Director of Health Services: Taresa Cunnard
The first day of school is right around the corner! One of our esteemed Kiski faculty members is already excited for the return of students to campus. Our Director of Health Services, Taresa Cunnard, spent her summer preparing for a new school year and is excited to use her knowledge and experience to improve the lives of students.
Taresa, a Saltsburg native, has been a member of the Kiski family since 1994 when she started working as our school nurse. In 2009, Taresa moved her family on campus and her son, Matthew, started attending Kiski. Today, Taresa continues to live on campus with her husband, Edwin, while her sons, Michael and Matthew, have since graduated high school. Living on campus allows Taresa to be available 24/7 for the rest of her family: our students.
“We treat them like they’re our own,” Taresa said of the student population at Kiski. “I call myself mom to 210 boys.”
Taresa loves her extended Kiski family and has enjoyed seeing the school grow and change over the years. One of Taresa’s favorite moments at Kiski was when her son Matthew graduated in 2010. She said that even after his graduation he remained a part of the Kiski family. People he had never met, but who were also connected to Kiski, helped him network and find internships suited to his interests after he graduated.
Yet learning and growing isn’t just for students. Over the summer, Taresa attended the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) 48th Annual Conference in Indianapolis. At the conference, the theme of which was “Learning, Linking, Leading,” they discussed the role of school nurses as lifelong learners and agents of change.
“The relationships and new skills that were developed at the conference largely reflected the passionate atmosphere of the event as a whole,” Taresa said. “This conference was an incredibly positive experience and I certainly believe that it will help continue my efforts to ensure that we provide the best care possible to our school community.”
As students arrive on campus and teachers return to their classrooms, Taresa wants parents to know that their sons are in good hands at Kiski. You can come and see for yourself by scheduling a visit!
