There are many academic and social advantages that come with attending a boarding school, but one you may not have thought of yet is the athletic benefits that accompany matriculation to a smaller school. In larger public schools, there are a lot of students competing for a limited number of positions on a sports team. Oftentimes, unless you are a standout athlete, your chances of making the varsity team are pretty limited. This typically is not the case at a private school.
At The Kiski School, we require freshmen and sophomores to play at least one sport per season. Juniors and Seniors often times play multiple sports
at the varsity level. With 23 athletic teams and participation in over 300 contests, there are plenty of opportunities to explore a variety of athletic challenges. Many of our students will participate in sports they have never played before and succeed at them. They come to Kiski as freshmen with little to no experience in a sport, and by the time they graduate they have earned All-League honors. In fact, 30% of graduates go on to play sports at a college level.
That is five times the average high school to college participation rate in athletics (avg. 6.16% NCAA 2015-16).
Kiski’s coaches are experienced, and most importantly, they love to coach. Athletics
is an extension of the classroom, and our coaches are also teachers. They prepare the student-athletes on their teams for the difficulties and hardships they will face in a season, providing them with the guidance and preparation they will need to succeed. Kiski coaches have a remarkable ability to make the average athlete better, and the better athlete greater. The reason for this is simple: our coaches spend the extra time with our athletes before and after practice.
Kiski also provides access to one of the best athletic facilities
in the state. Our new indoor 75,000 square ft. Ross Athletic Center includes a multi-purpose indoor training area for soccer, lacrosse, tennis, and baseball, as well as new weight and cardio training rooms, and a total renovation of the existing basketball, wrestling, and swimming areas. In addition to the Ross Athletic Center, Kiski has a 350-acre campus featuring a nine-hole golf course and miles of trails for cross-country running.
Whether you’re already a skilled athlete or you simply want to try something new, attending The Kiski School will give you many opportunities to excel. To learn more about how Kiski can help you reach your full athletic potential, contact us or schedule a visit!
