Residential Life

A Pillar of the Kiski Experience…

Kiski Dorm life is an important part of the boarding school experience. You make lifelong friends and learn skills and habits that you will carry with you for the rest of your life. It’s not only learning to be organized and adopting study skills; we also teach you to be comfortable with who you are. Dorm life is fun, exciting, hectic, loud, and a little bit crazy. You learn to be yourself and to accept others for who they are. Your dorm is your extended family and a small part of a much larger community. Make some new friends, learn a few phrases in another language, show off your talents at guitar or singing or Frisbee or microwaving mac and cheese. You will treasure your down time as you get some much needed sleep on the weekends before you head off to your game or on a weekend trip. Get involved in dorm life and you will have one of the best experiences of your life. Make the most of it!

Supporting Personal Growth and Development…

Nothing more fully prepares students to be gentlemen throughout their lives than the boarding experience at The Kiski School. It is this aspect of the Kiski experience where boys learn the proper behavior for a member of a community. In addition to the independence required to care for oneself, our boys cooperate with their roommates, working together to keep their room mostly tidy and to resolve the inevitable petty squabbles associated with adolescence. They learn to schedule their time, avoid procrastination, and develop the universally respected habit of punctuality. Kiski's Residential Life Curriculum includes special assemblies and group sessions to discuss healthy lifestyles, becoming a gentlemen, diversity, and leadership. Our weekly dorm meetings inform the students of topics also dealing with various issues that our students face as teenagers.

Now for the Fun Stuff…

Each of our six dorms is given a dorm color and theme for the year. The individual dorms compete in competitions earning pizza parties or other dorm prizes. We have Dorm sponsored weekend activities such as movie nights, ice cream sundae nights, ping pong tournaments, chess tournaments, poker games, age of empire/mythology, FIFA, baking cookies, flag football, outdoor basketball, fishing, slushy night, golf tournaments, and coffee bars. Each dorm is also responsible for an area of the campus for general landscaping and maintenance.

“The first couple of days the jacket and tie are kind of weird, but by day three you don’t think about it anymore. It would be one thing if you were the only kid wearing it, but to me, it’s like everyone in school wearing their lucky t-shirt and blue jeans. We don’t all look the same, but we all look respectable. At other schools, people dress in a particular way to show what clique they belong to. Here, we’re all one clique. There’s only one clique in this school and everybody here is a member.”
