Kiski Golf has a long history that reaches back to the original nine hole Kiski Golf Course located on campus. The course is still playable and open to alumni, students, and parents. For more of a challenge, Kiski Varsity Golf practices at our home course, the Totteridge Golf Club (www.totteridge.com), in Greensburg, PA. Totteridge is a Rees Jones design, Tom Tanto built, 6,659 yard course (blue tees) that offers challenging holes to all players and the best practice facility in Western Pennsylvania. We also frequently play The Links at Spring Church, The Latrobe Elks, Glengarry, Chestnut Ridge/Tom's Run, The Club at Blackthorne and The Madison Club.
Kiski golf candidates normally return from summer vacation for a short preseason in late August. Candidates for varsity golf return by invitation from the coach and should bring at least 3 scorecards signed an attested from 3 different courses. Also requested are score cards showing your lowest and highest scores for the summer. Scores below 45 for nine holes and 90 for 18 holes will get you an invitation to preseason!
Since 2011, Kiski has also participated in the Westmoreland County Coaches Association Fall Golf Tournament, held at Latrobe Elks. This is usually our first tournament of the season. Kiski participates in the Division II section of the 16 team tournament (evenly divided among Division I large schools and Division II small schools). Kiski has won the small school division trophy in 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018!
In 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018, our first official team practice was a team lesson and an round of golf at Oakmont Country Club, host to the 2016 U. S. Open Championship! We were invited by Mr. Russ Swank, a loyal Kiski Alumnus ('67) and avid golfer. In 2017, in addition to Oakmont Country Club, Totteridge and other fine local courses, we were fortunate to play Somerset Country Club (courtesy of Mr. John Jacob, '89), Chambersburg Country Club, Fox Chapel Golf Club, Sunnehanna Country Club (courtesy of alumnus John Ratini, '76) and the Snead Course at the Greenbrier in West Virginia.
In-season competition includes some of the strongest public high school golf teams in the area such as Altoona High School and Greensburg Central Catholic. We build the rest of our schedule with our traditional rivals in the IPSL (Interstate Preparatory School League): Western Reserve Academy, Shady Side Academy, and Linsly. Other very challenging prep school opponents include Mercersburg Academy, Malvern Prep and The Hill School. Finally, we participarte in the PAISAA (PA Association of Independent School Athletic Associations) State Golf Tournament.
