  • Track and Field - Varsity

    2023 - 2024
    Head Coach: Damien Williams

The strong foundations of Kiski track and field were established during the 1920’s and 1930’s. During this time Kiski produced several prep state championship teams and individuals. Kiski was fortunate to have several world-class athletes take a few turns on the cinders in those early years and it was those athletes that wrote the book of records for Kiski track. In fact two of those records still stand today, the 200-meter dash of 22.2 seconds from 1926 and the mile relay (3:27) of 1930.

Then in 1948 a young man named Bob Mathias joined the Kiski track team and attempted to rewrite the record book. This was just a few months after his first of two consecutive Olympic gold medals in the decathlon. In his one year at Kiski Mathias set no fewer than six individual school records. The fact that only one of Mathias’s records remains on the books (discus 164’4”) is a testament to the continued progress of Kiski’s track and field program.

The 1990’s witnessed another assault on the record books as 53 top-ten performances and 4 new school records were established. From a team standpoint, this decade was one of the most productive in Kiski track and field history. The Cougars won six consecutive IPSL championships and cruised through as many undefeated seasons.

The strong team concept developed in the 1990’s continues to dominate the philosophy of the Kiski track program. Overall team fitness is stressed on a daily basis and is essential in our quest to win team titles and add current names to the record books. The fact that the Cougars can be consistently competitive with schools of any size validates our commitment to developing top-quality, well-rounded athletes.
