The varsity hockey team plays in the Independent School Hockey League. The ISHL's other members are Sewickley Academy, Western Reserve Academy, Shady Side Academy and Linsly. In the ISHL's inaugural season, 2012-2013, the Cougars won the league Championship defeating Linsly in the finals. In 2015-2016, the Cougars won the league Championship for a second time defeating Western Reserve Academy in the finals. The 2015-2016 squad finished the year 16-2-1 and played outstanding hockey. The 2016-2017 Cougars were equally impressive with a record of 15-3. The team repeated as ISHL Champions, while also winning the Academy of the New Church Tournament, as well as the Midwest Hockey Tournament Championship. The 2017-2018 Cougars had a record of 16-2-1, and once again won the ISHL Championship for the third consecutive year and repeated as the Midwest Hockey Tournament Champions. Kiski will travel to Ohio, Philadelphia and Canada for non-league contests. The Cougars' aggressive non-league schedule is designed to prepare the team for the league tournament at the end of the year.
Head Coach Christopher Spahn returns for his fifth season behind the bench after a three year hiatus to lead the Cougars into the 2018-2019 season. Coach Spahn was the head coach of Kiski from 2006-2011 when the team enjoyed unprecedented success. Prior to Kiski, Coach Spahn coached prep school hockey in New England and played collegiately at Elmira College. Mark Novom will once again be behind the bench this year and will assist Coach Spahn. Coach Novom, a native of California, where he played club hockey, will once again work with the offense and special teams.
The 2018-2019 team looks to continue the strong play established over the last three seasons, but understand that hard work and determination are two important ingredients needed for team success.
