Ian McLaughlin ’08 won the National Championship at 119 pounds and also won “The Most Outstanding Wrestler” award at the National Prep Wrestling Tournament. Ian was seeded eighth going into the tournament and defeated Nick Shenk of McDonogh, Frank Cimato of Peddie, and Patrick Hunter of St. Benedict’s in the final 15-0, to win his first National Championship.
At the Westmoreland County Championships, Ian placed second in his weight division. “McLaughlin is having an excellent year. He missed a major portion of his junior year wrestling due to an injury. His gutsy performances are ones to be proud of after his extended layoff from the mat,” says wrestling coach, Joe Ross.
Ian said, “My goal is to win a national prep school title.” And that is what he did. Congratulations, Ian, on a job well done.
