  • Lacrosse - Varsity - Spring

    2023 - 2024
    Head Coach: Christopher Spahn

The 2024 Varsity Lacrosse team looks to continue the success the program has enjoyed over the past several seasons. The 2023 and 2022 Cougars each went 17-10 against some of the best programs in the country. The Cougars went 9-6 in 2021 in a pandemic-affected season.  The Cougars were ranked number one in Western PA in 2021 and finished the season ranked 14th in the state. The team finished the 2013 season with a 21-4 record and ended the season ranked sixth in Pennsylvania, while the 2014 team finished with a 20-5 record and ranked fourth in the state. Kiski will once again play a schedule that provides maximum exposure for our student-athletes. The Cougars regularly travel throughout the east coast and mid west for national competition, while traveling to Canada every other year. Kiski will once again participate in the Midwest Scholastic Lacrosse Coaches Association, the premier lacrosse conference in the Midwest. In 2016, the team lost in the "B" bracket finals. In 2017, 2019, and 2022 the Cougars lost in the "A" bracket semi-finals. The goal of our program is to prepare our young men for the academic and athletic rigors that await them in college, while also providing them with one of the most challenging schedules in the Midwest.

Head Coach Chris Spahn, Elmira ’92, is in his 20th year at Kiski, and has compiled a record of 222 wins and 126 losses. Coach Spahn has over forty years of experience playing and coaching lacrosse. He was a four year starter and senior captain of his Elmira College Lacrosse team. After graduating college, Coach Spahn stayed involved in the sport, playing on local Rhode Island and Boston club teams and serving as an assistant coach for the Division I Providence College Friars. Coach Spahn spent his four years prior to coming to Kiski teaching English and directing the lacrosse program at The Winchendon School, which is a member of the competitive New England Prep School Athletic Conference’s second division. In just four years with Coach Spahn as head coach, the Winchendon program made tremendous strides, winning its first New England Championship in school history in 2004. That spring, US Lacrosse rewarded Coach Spahn for his tremendous efforts, naming him Eastern New England Coach of the Year and Head Coach of the east squad in the annual Division II New England Prep All Star game. Coach Spahn was also named the 2008 WPSLA Coach of the Year for his work on Kiski's sideline during their championship season. In 2016 Coach Spahn was awarded the Midwest Coach of the Year by his peers. Coach Spahn is a well-organized, dedicated lacrosse coach, and each Kiski lacrosse player is looking forward to following him to the next level of competition. Coach Spahn will be assisted by TJ Stock '04, Ben Tackett '14 and TJ Spahn '18. Coach Stock will be entering his eighth year on the staff and is a graduate of Washington and Jefferson University and is in charge of faceoff play and logistics.

Coach Tackett played for four years at Rochester Institute of Technology (2014-2018) and was selected Team Captain in 2018. Coach Tackett is an Academic All-American (2018), Honorable Mention All-American SSDM (2018), IMLCA East Region Defensive Player of the year (2018), Team Liberty League SSDM (2018), Team Liberty League SSDM (2017), and named to the Liberty League All-Academic Team (2014-2018). This is Coach Tackett's third year on the sideline.

Coach Spahn works closely with the College Counseling Office and college coaches to place Kiski's lacrosse players in the best suitable college or university. It is important to us that our graduates matriculate to a college or university that they are comfortable and happy with. Our recent graduates have gone on to play at The U.S. Naval Academy, Harvard University, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Lehigh University, Lafayette College, Fairfield University, Providence College, University of Maryland Baltimore County, High Point University, Denison University, Canisius College, Queens' University, Elmira College, Alfred University, Kenyon College, Elizabethtown College, Catawba College, Western New England College, University of Hartford, Rochester Institute of Technology, Haverford College, Ithaca College, Western New England University, Hamilton College, RPI, St. Bonaventure's and Middlebury College.

If you have any questions regarding Kiski's lacrosse program, please feel free to call Coach Spahn at 724-639-8040, or reach him through email at chris.spahn@kiski.org.
