We are committed to making Kiski as affordable as possible by providing funding for families with demonstrated financial need.

In order to make the most equitable use of our resources, we require all families who are requesting tuition assistance to complete an application for tuition assistance using the link above. After your application and related documents have been submitted through the Clarity Application, the Tuition Assistance Committee will review your materials and determine an appropriate level of support. Shortly thereafter, one of our admission counselors will contact you directly to review your application and discuss our proposed tuition assistance package.

Kiski’s tuition assistance application form is straightforward and should take no more than 15-20 minutes to complete. We recommend that you gather the following information before you begin:

Income & tax information: your Form 1040 tax return from the prior-prior year (i.e. 2 years ago); W-2 and 1099 (if applicable) tax statement(s).
Interest & dividend information: 1099-INT and/or 1099-DIV statements, if applicable
Total alimony and/or child support you receive annually
Mortgage statements for your home(s)
Lease or finance statements showing vehicle payments
Expenses for health insurance premiums and/or non-reimbursed medical costs
Bank, investment, and/or mutual fund account statements

Please be assured that your tuition assistance application and all submitted materials will be held in strict confidence. If a student does not enroll or when his enrollment at Kiski concludes, all electronic documents will be deleted and paper copies will be destroyed as required by law and NAIS best practices.

Can I estimate my income if I’ve not yet filed my tax return?

Yes. Estimates can be based on W-2 and 1099-MISC statements, which you should receive by January 31. If you don’t yet have your W-2/1099 statements, you can use the last pay stub from your employer and multiply your gross monthly pay by 12. If your income has not changed significantly since last year, you can use your prior year’s tax return to estimate your gross income.
Does the amount I enter for taxes paid include property taxes?

Yes, but only the property tax you paid on your primary residence
How do I calculate the equity of my home?

Calculate your home equity by taking the current market value of your primary residence minus the amount you still owe on your mortgage. If the home was purchased within the past few years, use the purchase price as the current market value. Otherwise, you can find the current market value by entering your address at zillow.com and using the estimated home value that’s given.
If I currently receive tuition assistance, do I have to complete a new application for next year?

Yes. A family must reapply for financial aid each year and complete a new application form.
If the applicant’s parents are separated or divorced and living apart, are both parents required to complete tuition assistance applications?

Yes. A separate tuition assistance application must be submitted for each household where a biological parent of the applicant resides.
What should be included for interest and dividend income?

Interest and dividend income refers to earnings from savings accounts or stocks, for example. If you have such holdings, you should receive 1099-INT and 1099-DIV statements from your money manager by mid-February. The amount to be entered on the application form is the total amount on all 1099-INT forms (box 1) and 1099-DIV forms (box 1a). Do not include any earning or gains from traditional retirement accounts.
How do I determine my income for other properties or real estate I own?

If you’ve already filed your tax return, net real estate income is reported on your 1040 Schedule E. If you’ve not yet filed, you can estimate this value by taking the total rental income you received last year minus maintenance, insurance, management fees, mortgage interest paid to banks, repairs, utility costs, and property taxes paid.
Can I estimate the amount I will pay in taxes if I’ve not yet filed my return?

Yes. You can estimate your taxes based on withholding amounts from your W-2 statement(s) or by looking at your last monthly pay stub from your employer, adding up all tax withholdings and multiplying by 12. Typically, taxes are not withheld for miscellaneous income, so you should estimate taxes due on income reported on 1099-MISC statements by using the tax rate you pay on ordinary income plus 15%. If you are required to make quarterly estimated tax payments, you can use these documents to estimate your annual tax obligation.
Does the amount I enter for annual rent or mortgage include all properties I rent or own?

No. This is the annual amount of rent or mortgage payments you make on your primary residence only.
